I am Jackie Ebsary , the great, great, great granddaughter of John Ebsary and Hannah Whitten.  And I am back to get these pages underway again!

I am kin to all of the Ebsary’s and Whitten’s, Ford’s, and Kendrick’s.  I am kin to some of the Bursell's, Brine’s, Carter’s, Chafe’s and Clayton’s.  To the Coaker’s, Cook’s, Ellis’s, Fogwill’s and Falk’s, Denning’s, Hancock’s Hutching’s, some of the Herder’s.  I am cousins with the Horwood’s, the Jane’s, the King’s, the Leaman’s, the Macneill’s, the Neill’s and some of the Nixon’s.  The Pond’s, the Porter’s, Reid’s, Rendell’s, Roberts, Soper’s, Taylor’s, Tessier’s. The William’s, the Withycombe’s and the Woolridge’s.

So in short – if I am not related to YOU – then YOU are related to someone that I am too.

A great big family.

The South Side Family

I come from Newman Ebsary and his wife Sarah Hinds.  Sarah’s mother was reportedly a Bartlett and a first cousin to Capt. Bob.  My cousin Doris grew up on the South Side………she tells me that all of the Bartlett’s on the South Side were related to one another.  She also told me that Newman used to put on a gas mask from the first war to scare the children who knocked on the door.

Another cousin told me that one day a man came and knocked on Sarah’s door.  He was looking for his hat.  Well, Sarah didn’t have a clue what he was talking about……walking down the street and all of a sudden his hat disappeared?  Right off his head?  That is until she went up the stairs and found a granddaughter with a fishing rod…  and poor skipper’s hat!

The First War.  How many South Side Boys went to war?  How many never came home again? We will have a page dedicated to them.  Dr. McPherson was the “South Side” doctor.  He made first gas mask.  He also signed for most of the boys to go to war.  And he was also a cousin to some of the Families.

How about Regatta?  We can have a page for those boys too.  Doris told me that once Regatta was announced, taxi’s would come and pick up the people and all of their days needs and off to the Pond they would go.  First come – first serve.

Harold Blackler, whose family lived on the South Side, brought the Church Lad’s Brigade to Newfoundland.  All of the memorabilia was destroyed in a fire.  So, besides giving them a page, I want to take what you are willing to share, and build the CLB Museum a book to help replace some of what they lost.

Speaking of Books- the Family History Books that I have been building over the last few months are beginning to circulate.  Please let me know if you are interested in adding to and sending on any of these books

Now go back to the main page.  Pick a book, any book, and see where it leads you.
